The Shire of Hartstone is noted for their armored combat. Unlike many Ren Faires and LARP groups, the SCA is a full contact sport. "Swords" are duct taped rattan, basket hilt, and cushioned thrusting tips. There is no use of real weaponry. All weaponry follows a code. There are assortments such as sword and board, great sword, and more.

The purpose of armored combat is to reenact Medieval combat. The purpose of armored combat is not to intentionally injure your opponent. There are instances that you or someone may receive an injury. Calibration, armor protection, and intent play roles in potential injury.

When fighting, be sure to notify your opponent what your experience level is. Let them know if you are authorized. Authorization occurs at events, not at practices. In order to be authorized, you must exhibit qualities that show you have offense and defense on the field. It checks to make sure you play fair and understand the game. If you are not authorized, be sure to fill out a form at every practice.
